General Purpose Deckhand

A successful Commercial Fishing business, based out of the beautiful Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia is seeking crew for their newest vessel.

Deckhand’s primary role is to sort and process prawns and other related by-catch, onboard the fishing vessel.

The vessel is typically at sea for around 20 days at a time and normally there is a short turn around in port before returning to sea.

Likely earning for full time employee $54,000 p.a. plus Super. This is paid as a percentage of vessel catch, and with the right performance and circumstances crew can earn above this salary. This is a full time position.

**As Deckhand, you will be required to**:

- Spending extended period of time at sea with limited personal space.
- Ability to work in rough seas.
- Sorting, cleaning, and processing prawns and by catch.
- Freezer stacking and unloading.
- General deck work, including ropes, wires and assisting with onboard operations.
- Cooking and cleaning.
- Ability to lift objects weighing between 20-30kg.
- On Shore general vessel maintenance, vessel refits, painting when required
- Must have experience or ability to work and live onboard at sea.
- Able to work as team.
- Current First Aid certificate
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or have confirmed work rights in Australia including Working Holiday Makers.
- Zero Drug and alcohol Tolerance on board the vessel
- Net mending experience and seafood processing would be preferred.
