**Registered Nurse - Introduction to Cardiology (formerly CCU Discovery Program)***:

- Experience an introduction to cardiac nursing at Western Health.

- Be supported by our unit based specialist cardiac educator.

The Western Health CCU’s are seeking RN’s with outstanding clinical and interpersonal skills who would like to experience and introduction to cardiac nursing. Applicants are expected to show a keen interest in their ongoing professional development and a mastery of the nursing basics. Introduction to Cardiology program positions are available at both Footscray and Sunshine CCUs.

**About the role**:
The Introduction to Cardiology program is entry level into cardiac nursing at Western Health. Participants join the highly skilled cardiac nursing team as they experience the specialty of cardiac nursing. The program is 12 months in duration and allows participants to develop new skills and knowledge via clinical and theoretical experiences.

Clinically, participants will contribute to the management of patients with heart attacks, arrhythmias, acute heart failure and other cardiac conditions. Theoretical experiences includes participation in a series of specialty tailored education days and exposure to acute interventions such as cardiac stenting and insertion of pacemakers in the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory.

Participants will develop rhythm recognition and ECG interpretation skills required to safely care for patients on continuous cardiac monitoring. Successful completion of this program is the first step on a pathway to a Postgraduate Diploma of Nursing (Cardiac Stream) through La Trobe University.

**Duties**:

- Shift work on a rotating roster that includes night shift.
- Ensure safe and high quality patient care is delivered in line with Western Health values and policies.
- Participate in the education program, as well as self-directed learning.
- Contribute to exceptional care to patients in a Cardiac Care setting.
- Successful completion of a Bachelor or Nursing qualification or equivalent
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse in Australia
- Current acute nursing experience; **at least 12 months** in acute medical / surgical nursing.
- Possess excellent clinical and organisation skills.
- Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development.
