About the role
Reporting to the Lead Investigator, the Investigator is a member of a team responsible for conducting intelligence-led investigations into environmental crime (relating to pollution and waste) in the region, proactively targeting high risk offenders to systematically identify and prevent environmental harm from occurring and ensuring that those that break environmental laws are held to account.
You will actively contribute to a positive organisational culture and ensure you achieve the highest standards of performance and integrity; and foster genuine partnerships across all levels of government, industry, and community to support the delivery organisational outcomes.
Duties
Lead and support the delivery of set organisational priorities, achieving the highest standards of performance, accountability, collaboration, ethics, and integrity; undertake and oversight project/program planning and reporting, and manage allocated budget and resources in accordance with organisational requirements.
Actively contribute to the development of a positive and high performing team culture, including by identifying and implementing opportunities to improve teamwork practices.
As directed by the Lead Investigator, deliver proactive, intelligence led investigations in the region, using innovative techniques to target high risk offenders to systematically identify and stop environmental harm related to pollution and waste; and bring those that break environmental laws to account.
Collaborate with regional operations teams, Legal Branch, Data Analytics and Intelligence Unit and other parts of EPA in delivering EPA's strategic regulatory priorities; and in ensuring that the conduct of investigations and the prosecution of cases ensures the optimal use of EPA resources, is aligned to strategic priorities and is in the public interest.
Work collaboratively with co-regulators to drive improved environmental and public health outcomes; and provide local intelligence to inform EPA's strategic regulatory priorities.
Participate in the response to environmental and public health emergencies and incidents.
Ensure all legislative, process and compliance obligations are met in the conduct of investigations and surveillance.
Undertake administrative processes and other tasks as directed for the effective achievement of regulatory outcomes; ensure that all Government and EPA policies and procedures, such and financial management, occupational health and safety, and conduct are complied with.
Represent the EPA positively in engaging with the community and duty holders to build knowledge and awareness of the laws that protect our environment and human health from pollution and waste, and the role of EPA as Victoria's independent environmental regulator.
Take a problem-solving approach to work, utilising new powers and tools in the Environment Protection Act 2017 with a commitment to continuous improvement, ensuring a one-EPA approach to delivering priority outcome
