About the Business Unit
The Consumer Affairs portfolio interacts with a number of other government portfolios and impacts on everyday Victorians, a range of industries and a number of occupations. This demands that the unit consider communication and engagement as part of policy development and maintain effective engagement with agencies, industry and community stakeholders.
The unit provides policy services and advice to the Deputy Secretary, Consumer Affairs Gaming and Liquor and Dispute Services Group, Secretary and departmental executives and the Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming and Liquor Regulation. To cover the breadth of the portfolio, Regulation Policy must be highly adaptive and responsive. It operates on a matrix structure that creates and disbands multi skilled project groups to meet the government's legislative program agenda and changing priorities and substantive projects. This provides a rich opportunity for team members.
About the Role

**As a Policy Officer, some of your duties will include**:

- Contributing to research and policy work to provide advice and support to the Minister and DJCS Executives on a range of policy proposals, programs and initiatives within the Consumer Affairs portfolio
- Providing critical analysis and input to Cabinet processes and major DJCS reforms from a consumer Affairs Perspective
- Demonstrating sound communication and interpersonal skills in order to liaise across DJCS and with stakeholders and the ability to manage multiple tasks with limited supervision
- Contributing to a supportive and a high-performing team culture, supporting colleagues and managers.

About You
- Strong conceptual and analytical skills with a particular ability to analyse complex policy and legal issues, interpret legislation and provide accurate and strategic advice
- Sound knowledge of how legislation is developed and of Cabinet and Parliamentary processes
- Sound understanding of project management and associated tools
- Demonstrated ability to prepare well-written, timely, concise, accurate and audience-appropriate briefings and reports
- Ability to build a supportive and cooperative team environment and engage other teams to share information in order to understand or respond to issues
- Ability to determine the source of a problem and seek a resolution through policy or process guidelines whilst providing information and ideas relevant towards resolution of problem.
