**Where you'll be working**
Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) delivers essential health care services in Western Sydney. The Blacktown Early Access Team (BEAT) provides specialised mental health care for young people, focusing on those with moderate to complex mental illnesses.
- BEAT is based in Mt Druitt, supporting individuals aged 12-24.
- Provides evidence-based mental health interventions, including treatment for psychosis, mood disorders, and anxiety.
- Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician role focuses on holistic recovery for Aboriginal people.
- Key responsibilities include assessments, risk management, advocacy, and collaboration.
- Prioritises recovery, trauma-informed care, and community support, working across multiple health disciplines.

**What you'll be doing**
The Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician within the BEAT team offers specialised support for young Aboriginal people with mental health and drug/alcohol issues. This role focuses on recovery and delivering culturally sensitive care.
- Provides mental health assessment, therapy, and support for Aboriginal youth.
- Focuses on trauma-informed, client-centred interventions and recovery.
- Manages risks and ensures timely reporting of concerns in clinical work.
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, families, and external service providers.
- Advocates for Aboriginal youth facing socio-cultural, economic, and health challenges.

**Essential Requirements**

Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing/ Psychology/ Social Work/ Occupational Therapy or relevant degree to be a counsellor
Registration: Full Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse/ Psychologist/ Occupational Therapist or eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (social worker) or eligible for membership with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (counsellor)

**Selection Criteria**
- Be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent authorised under section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act (NSW) 1977.
- Must have demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal young people with mental illness, concept of social and emotional wellbeing including an understanding of Aboriginal intergenerational trauma. This will include an understanding regarding the practical and emotional issues that may arise when working with Aboriginal individuals with mental health concerns and their families.
- Must have completed tertiary education/qualification in Social work, Counselling, Psychology, Occupational Therapy and/or equivalent; and relevant experience working with Aboriginal Young People.
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in working with young people with Alcohol & Other drug difficulties, especially Aboriginal families and communities.
- Ability to work both autonomously and as a member of a multidisciplinary team, always working within the scope of registration and role, including ability to prioritise own workload.
- Have effective written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated competency in use of computerised administration systems.
- Current and Valid Class C Driver’s license and willingness to drive for work purposes
