The Traditional Owner Agreement Unit has a new role for someone with an interest in policy that directly benefits Victorian Traditional Owners. This role will support DEECA in pursuing improved outcomes from the Traditional Owner Settlement Act 2010. Accountabilities of this role will include supporting DEECA's implementation of the Government's policy reform commitments, preparing detailed briefings for DEECA executives for intergovernmental forum and related working groups, as well as collaborating with DEECA managers and staff to achieve better outcomes for Traditional Owners.
You will be part of a high performing, flexible and supporting team. This position offers you the chance to contribute to the improvement of productive relationships between the government and Traditional Owners. This position is classified as an “identified position” aimed at increasing employment opportunities for Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People. The position requires an in-depth knowledge of Aboriginal culture and an ability to communicate with Aboriginal communities. Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- Demonstrated broad understanding of the Victorian Government's (including DEECA) policy and legislative framework pertaining to Victoria's Aboriginal communities, including the Traditional Owner Settlement Act (Vic) 2010.
- Experience and knowledge in the development and delivery of policy, programs and projects; use of these skills in the context of Traditional Owner policy development and/or implementation is advantageous.
- Tertiary qualification(s) including post-graduate qualification(s) in law, public policy, natural resource or environmental management or similar is desirable.
This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is 8 Nicholson Street, Naarm (Melbourne) with hybrid work arrangements available.
