**About the role**

The Medical Practitioner will provide and supervise medical care to prisoners by delivering and evaluating medical programs and medical services required and/or provided.

The Medical Practitioner coordinates hours of service and on-call responsibilities in consultation with the Health Services Manager and the Director, Medical Services.

**Opportunities exist for a Part Time Medical Practitioner at Melbourne Assessment Prison, West Melbourne.**

Salary package for Full Time position is $300,000 (including super); and a pro-rata amount for Part Time position.

Currently 1** day per week**available at Melbourne Assessment Prison, with opportunity to discuss additional days at other GEO Healthcare locations nearby.

Position Description Medical Practitioner

**Skills and Experience**:

- Medical practitioner currently registered by the Medical Board of Australia (from 1 July 2010).
- Documentary evidence of medical indemnity insurance.
- A minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience.
- High written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team.
- Demonstrated competence in provision of high-quality care.
- Willingness to undertake regular professional development relevant to the position.
- Computer skills relevant to the role.
- Experience in mental health, drug and alcohol and emergency care. (Desirable)

**Other Requirements of the role**:

- Valid Australian driver’s licence and the ability to travel between locations.
- Ability to work within a prison setting, which will involve direct contact with people in prison associated with the delivery of healthcare.
- Satisfactory completion of a National Criminal History Check.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Working outside of ordinary business hours may be required.
