Rail Operator Maintainer

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community in which we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara minesite. There are 4 train services per day on a continuous basis to support the mining operation

We are seeking an experienced **Rail Operator / Maintainer **to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of rail services to and from the Karara Mine Site.

The role alternates between rail operations & track maintenance. During operational periods the role undertakes monitoring and controlling of train movements and management of ore stockpiles within the train load and stockpiling area to ensure the delivery of correct quality ore for shipping. During maintenance periods the role involves activities relevant to the maintenance of the railway to enable efficient operation.

This role operates on an** 8 days on and 6 days off (day shift) / 7 nights on and 7 days off (night shift) **and is DIDO from Geraldton (Company bus available) or FIFO from Perth. DIDO from other Midwest regional locations is also possible.

**Role responsibilities;**

- Lead by example and carry out all work in a safe manner ensuring the safety and well-being of you, other employees, contractors and visitors
- Actively contribute to meetings and planning discussions on improving hazard awareness and safety
- Perform operations tasks for management of the train loading area out including controlling train movements, monitoring train loading activities and conduct other activities essential to the efficient supply of trains into the supply chain
- Conduct rail infrastructure inspections and maintenance to company standards, ensuring a safe and reliable rail system is maintained
- Monitor and report as required on; train loading, train operations, product stockpiling and railway infrastructure inspection and maintenance
- Compilation of daily production data relating to rail operations, product stockpiling and track maintenance
- Cooperate and work effectively with other departments to ensure company plans and targets are achieved
- Ability to supervise contractors in the Train Loadout (train loading & stockpiling operations) or on track (eg weed spraying)
- Comply with statutory requirements and company policies and procedures applicable to the Operations and Maintenance of the railway
- Engage in continuous improvement to constantly seek better, safer and more efficient ways of undertaking activities and/or tasks
- Undertake other tasks as reasonably assigned by Line Manager in accordance with skill set and competency

**Key Requirements**:

- Manual Class 'C' 'Driver’s License (WA)
- Able to obtain ARC Protection Officer
- Ability to undertake shift work
- Must be able to successfully complete a** Cat 1 Rail Medical**

**Desirable but not essential**:

- ARC Infrastructure Track Accreditation (POTV)
- Cert II or Cert III in Rail Infrastructure
- Road Rail Vehicle licence
- Mine site experience
