The roleResponsible for providing scientific leadership and management in Forensic Biology. The role will oversee the implementation of strategic and operational planning, monitoring, evaluating, and reporting systems. Additionally, this position will provide leadership toward Forensic Science Queensland's vision of becoming a world-class leader in the delivery of quality, timely and innovative forensic services, that ultimately supports the integrity of the Queensland justice system.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Manage case flow and scientific analyses efficiently while meeting stakeholder expectations and organisational objectives.
- Ensure resources are managed effectively in accordance with approved business and strategic plans.
- Lead the management, professional policy development and strategic direction of the Forensic Biology section.
- Regularly review and improve forensic biology/DNA professional work policies, practices and procedures in accordance with NATA accreditation, international standards of best practice and legislative requirements.
- Implement the Commission of Inquiry recommendations into DNA testing that relate to the Forensic Biology operational activities.
- Manage the Forensic Biology budget within agreed goals.

The successful person
- It is a mandatory requirement of this role to possess a Bachelor degree or higher in medical science, forensic science, applied science or a relevant field from a recognised tertiary institution.
- Demonstrated experience in the leadership and management of employees in a forensic scientific environment.
- Proven expertise in the ability to conduct and self-manage forensic casework including those of a more complex nature.
- Proven ability to monitor client and stakeholder satisfaction to ensure positive outcomes for the stakeholder and the Department.
- Proven competence in forensic scientific and laboratory practice and experience in developing, implementing and reviewing policies and procedures.
- Working knowledge of NATA's forensic accreditation requirements.

About usForensic Science Queensland (FSQ) operates specialised Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry and Forensic Operations functions that provides forensic services and expert advice to the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and the Coroner's Court of Queensland.
Forensic Biology provides analytical and advisory services principally to the Queensland Police Service in the areas of evidence examination, DNA analysis and result interpretation culminating in expert advice and evidence.
Forensic Chemistry provides testing evidence examination and reporting, oil spill comparisons and illicit drug analysis. It also performs commercial testing for hemp growers, councils, commercial cleaning companies, landlords and real estate agents.
