About the opportunity
The role of the Lived Experience Worker (Carer) has been developed for people who have a lived experience in providing care for a mental health care recipient. The purpose of this position is to acknowledge the critical role of family/carers in recovery as well as the importance of linking family/carers into support for themselves. The Lived Experience Worker (Carer) will provide emotional and practical support and help to identify their information and support needs.
The HOPE team actively engage clients in the assessment of their own suicide risk and actively contribute to their suicide prevention plan in order to minimize the risk of attempting suicide in the future. The HOPE team will work in a manner that encourages and invites consumer and family participation, and promotes self
- determination.
The Lived Experience Worker (Carer) will work collaboratively with the HOPE team and other members of the Lived Experience Workforce across Mercy Mental Health, to engage and provide support through a range of mediums which includes outreach, telehealth and site based work.
Qualifications- Experience as a carer of a mental health consumer.- Formal qualification (or working towards) in mental health, mental health peer work i.e. Intentional Peer Support/ Certificate IV in Mental Health (Peer Work), social work, psychology or similar.- Training in other relevant mental health and suicide specific areas.- Current unrestricted driver’s license.
