**The opportunity**

This strategic role offers autonomy and impact, shaping the future of civil infrastructure for Hobson’s Bay. Establish design standards, manage internal and external design resources, and deliver high-quality, cost-effective outcomes across roads, drainage, and transport projects.

As a technical expert and proactive communicator, you’ll provide specialist advice across Council, foster cross-department collaboration, and drive continuous improvement in infrastructure design. You’ll ensure all design activities meet legislative requirements and best practice standards and take the lead in shaping and development of a high-performing Design Office.

**What you’ll be doing**
- Lead and manage the Design Office, ensuring effective resource allocation and project delivery
- Develop and maintain engineering design standards aligned with legislation and best practices
- Oversee civil infrastructure designs across roads, drainage, pathways, and transport projects
- Provide expert technical advice, mentoring, and quality assurance across design activities
- Drive strategic planning, asset management, and capital works through concept design and feasibility
- Collaborate with stakeholders and manage external consultants to meet project and community goals

**What you'll need to succeed**
- Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
- Must have valid engineering registration (NER) in accordance with Professional Engineers Registration Act 2019
- Extensive experience with roads and drainage networks, local government infrastructure
- Proven complex project management skills, including budget and contract management
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
- A maximum 2-page cover letter which should outline your interest in the role
- A current CV which includes key achievements & relevant qualifications
