The role of Research Projects staff in CSIRO is to collaborate in scientific and technological activities with other research staff usually by assisting with detailed planning, undertaking or assisting with experimental, observational or technology development work, and in carrying out the more practical aspects of the work.

Programmer Modeller and Data Analyst staff in CSIRO collaborate on scientific and technological activities with other research staff usually by assisting with detailed planning, undertaking or assisting with experimental, observational or technology development work, and in carrying out the more practical aspects of the work.

The position will provide a range of data analysis, spatial mapping and computer programming support for large research projects led by the Resource Planning and Optimisation (RPO) team or where the team are involved in.

Large projects led by the team draw in additional capability from other groups and business units in CSIRO, including Data61 and Agriculture&Food.

**Your duties will include**:

- Gather and synthesize data from clients, including soft data provided by stakeholders and industry to provide input projects led by RPO.
- Synthesize geospatial and other outputs from RPO scientific models into a variety of forms (e.g. spatial mapping or tabular) for client reports, automated templates and write up the methods.
- Producing code (Python) to automate many of the reporting outputs (maps, tables, summaries) used in the tools produced by the team.
- Set up and run models produced by the team to provide outputs for projects and liaising with clients and stakeholders to tailor the outputs and reporting to their needs.
- Incorporating feedback from clients into the RPO geospatial and other data sets.
- Providing technical and modelling assistance for the RPO team as its R&D expands in the new CSIRO Missions.
- Contribute to a variety of scientific and media publications, including, journal and conference papers, fact sheets, posters, user guides etc.
- Continue personal development in the latest programming and analysis tools, through training courses and liaising with others in CSIRO who develop other major software products.
- Participate in planning projects, including evaluation of options, experimental design, data collection and analysis, user and customer research, user experience and/or software design, implementation and delivery.
- Make significant contributions to the interpretation and communication of research or technological results and may collaborate on drafting presentations to, and/or detailed written reports for, clients and the scientific and/or technology community.
- Work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research team to carry out tasks in support of CSIRO’s scientific objectives.

**Salary**:AU$89,680-$101,459 per annum plus up to 15.4% superannuation

**To be considered you will need**:
**Essential**:

- Under CSIRO policy only those who meet all essential criteria can be appointed._
- Relevant bachelor’s degree in a scientific or engineering discipline such as Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent, and at least a minimum of 2 years of work experience in a relevant field.
- Demonstrated programming experience in Python (and ideally other languages such as Java or R) and SQL.
- Previous experience in analysing and documenting large data sets.
- Experience in data analysis, statistical packages and GIS packages.

**Desirable**
- Demonstrated stakeholder engagement with I.T. industry experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to deliver clear reports, and presentations at either conferences or seminars.
