**Purpose of the position**:
The Support Worker is responsible in providing services aimed at maximising the living, social and recreational skills of participants. This will include: community inclusion, increasing independence, decision making and personal choice through the supports provided.
Employees are expected to present a positive and professional image of Empowering Care when interacting with clients, family members, advocates, service providers, and the general community The Support Worker will be a valued member of Empowering Care and will contribute to providing best practice to the participants through attending regular staff meetings, continuing professional development and assist in policy reviews.
This position is a casual position (without qualifications) contracted for 12 months. Salary is in accordance with the SHADS award (Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry)
All support services must be performed in line with the Policies and Procedures of Empowering Care.
**Key Selection Criteria**:
- Participants receive a high level of support to promote and maintain independence.
- Support is provided to participants in a caring and supportive way.
- Documentation will be kept on all interactions, providing evidence that support services are provided as per the participants plan.
- All policies and procedures are followed.
- Daily documentation is completed on Empowering Care’s computer system (CareMaster).
- Communication with the Manager is maintained.
- Employees will advise management of any potential risks to participants or the organisation.
- Induction is undertaken on commencement.
- Other training such as Certificate IV in Disability is undertaken as required.
- Documentation is completed and maintained as per Empowering Care’s procedures.
- Sufficient notice is provided for all rostered shifts you become unable to work.
- The Employees will adhere to Empowering care’s Employees Handbook and the Employees Health and Safety Handbook, as well as all the organisations Standard Operation Procedures.
**Responsibilities and duties**:
- Carry out tasks as per the service delivery provided to the participants by Empowering care authority, and other reasonable duties as instructed by the employer.
- To perform direct care duties for participants who require that support service. This may include: Showering, bathing, Dressing/grooming, Toileting, Preparing meals, shopping. The roles are not limited to these, each employee will be directed of the expectations for each shift by CEO of Empowering Care.
- Assist participants to take their medication including: Epilepsy and Midazolam medication. Undertake appropriate training where required in relation to administering of medication
- Enhance or increase the participants current physical and intellectual capabilities, while abiding by all relevant workplace health and safety standard, including transferring of clients in hoists, Empowering Care’s Employees handbook and Standard Operation Procedures.
- Provide other support services to individual participants as required.** This may include**: Washing and ironing of personal clothes, performing household duties to ensure the house is kept clean and tidy.
- Identifying the need for, and supporting participants to attend, medical/therapist appointments.
- Transportation to medical appointment and community inclusion activities.
- Facilitate community inclusion and participation, dependent on participants needs wants and desires.
- Support participants to establish and maintain relationships and interests through access to community activities.
- Employees must demonstrate initiative at all times when carrying out tasks, supporting participants in activities and meeting personal needs.
- Carry out and promote positive routines, in a respectful manner, which is meaningful to the individual.
- Effectively manage challenging behaviour and encourage positive social behaviour.
- Promote empowerment and the right of choice.
- Respond to crisis, refer to Employees Handbook and follow the procedure.
- Participate in professional development opportunities, and embrace change in line with the principles of continuous improvement.
- To be aware of safe working conditions and implement safe working practices in all work areas and report potential hazards, incidents and concerns in a professional and timely manner.
