**About the role**

The Carer Lived Experience Support Worker for Austin Child and Youth Mental Health Service is a newly created position that will provide lived experience expertise to support families accessing the Austin CYMHS service eating disorder program and treatment.

In this role you will provide support to families through the assessment and treatment process, as well as having the opportunity to facilitate carer support groups.

A regular day will see you:

- Provide peer support to families and carers of children in the CYMHS Eating Disorder Program, using personal lived experience to provide a model of hope and recovery and carers across CYMHS
- Assist families and carers for the duration of engagement with CYMHS Eating Disorder Program throughout assessment, treatment and discharge planning, particularly aiding in the engagement with community supports
- Engage and work collaboratively with other members of the mental health program, including clinical staff, case managers, Lived Experience Workforce and advisory groups

If you are passionate and experienced caring for a young person who has accessed treatment in the public child and youth mental health sector health, and enjoy shaping new teams and services for young people and their families, we are keen for you to join us

To be successful in this role you will bring with you:

- Lived experience as a person who has been a carer or family member of someone who has accessed public mental health services for eating disorder treatment, bringing their lived experience and understanding of the challenges faced collectively by families
- Understanding of mental health peer support principles and the ability to use peer support to provide hope and a belief in recovery
- Understanding and appreciation of the principles of recovery, including social connectedness, holistic care provision and peer-based examples of wellness
