**Who we are**
About the department We are the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. We lead Australia’s response to climate change and sustainable energy use, and help protect our environment, heritage, and water. We provide advice to the Australian Government around climate, energy, and the environment, and administer legislation. The department also enforce laws relating to the protection of the environment and biodiversity, wildlife, fuel quality and greenhouse gas storage.
We deliver policies and programs to:

- help address climate change and build a more innovative, future ready energy system
- protect our unique environment, biodiversity and heritage
- manage Australia’s water resources for industry and regional communities
- advance Australia’s interests in the Antarctic and Southern Ocean.

**The Job**
What you will do As a Director within the Capability and Performance Branch, you will:

- Plan, manage and lead your team to deliver strategic and operational advice and activities across the organisation
- drive the development and implementation of best practice policies, processes, and systems to support the department and Government initiatives and priorities
- build and sustain effective relationships both internally and with external stakeholders, including professional associations, service providers and Government agencies
- contribute to shaping the strategic direction of the branch and the department’s corporate agenda while monitoring and responding to APS-wide changes of relevance to HR policies and practices
- build leadership and employee capability through identifying development opportunities, providing mentoring and coaching and giving effective feedback
- oversee the preparation of complex and/or sensitive correspondence, briefs and documentation in a timely manner.

This process will be used to establish a merit pool that will be used to fill ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies over the next 12 months. In particular, we are seeking Directors with experience in the following areas:

- Recruitment
- Workforce Planning
- Workplace Relations
- Talent
- SES Unit

**What we are looking for**

**Knowledge and experience**
You will have demonstrated experience in leading multi-functional HR teams in a high profile and impactful environment. You will also bring innovation and forward planning to your team and support the delivery of both strategic and operational HR functions for the department.

We are looking for someone who:

- has superior representational and interpersonal skills and a higher order ability to influence and communicate effectively with people including Executive
- has a proven ability to deliver quality outcomes in a high intensity environment as well as success in leading teams, guiding and coaching others
- is flexible, able to work across teams to achieve strategic outcomes and take on existing and new strategies as required
- has experienced working in diverse teams and are willing to work on building your own competency in understanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and how it impacts our work
- is willing to build your disability confidence as you will be responsible for the implementation of practices that provide a safe and accessible working environment for all employees.
