**Team Leader - Youth Services**

Kurbingui Youth & Family Development is a not-for-profit Aboriginal community-controlled organisation.

Established in 2001, we have continued to grow in the number of services delivered to the community in areas such as employment and training, family support, domestic and family violence, alcohol and substance abuse, cultural education and engagement, support targeting successful educational outcomes for families and children and young people from preschool to tertiary, recreation and sports, early years, youth, women and men, cultural group activities, social, emotional well-being - suicide prevention, crisis response and treatment and health and nutrition.

**Youth Services**

The youth programs are collectively aimed at responding to vulnerable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families and support network, and provide access to high-quality services at the right time to help them to achieve their goals related to the service. For example, cease participating in anti-social or criminal activity, successfully achieve educational outcomes, and/or gain and retain employment.

**The role**

The Team Leader has responsibility for support and supervision of the team, as well as managing day-to-day running of the program. The position requires you to be assertive and highly organised in order to provide support to staff as well as manage relationships with partner agencies and funding bodies.

**Requirements**:
ESSENTIAL
- Extensive experience in conducting safety and risk assessments, cultural safety, youth and family support intervention services; focusing on neglect, DFV etc, education, employment and training.
- Solid understanding and knowledge of all related legislation.
- An extensive understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, protocols and societies and the issues which impact upon them in contemporary society together with a commitment to culturally safe engagement and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to build an effective team with a culture of high performance.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organise and coordinate own and others’ workloads.
- Demonstrated knowledge of culturally appropriate strength-based approach within a family support context.
- Effective communication skills - written, verbal and interpersonal.

DESIRABLE
- Knowledge of local community protocols and established community connections within the geographical catchments
- Experience in collaborative program arrangements with relevant agencies, other service providers, and key stakeholders.

**SELECTION CRITERIA**
- A well-developed professional therapeutic framework for working with children and young people, their families, extended families, community and other key stakeholders.
- Demonstrated knowledge of normal child development trajectories and the impact of child abuse and neglect, including sexual abuse, to children’s and young person’s functioning; including effective culturally safe individual and family intervention methods.
- Demonstrated ability to work in authentic partnership with other professionals and organisations; including dialogue, negotiation and conflict management skills in critical decision-making processes.
- Demonstrated experience in the professional supervision of team members involving critical strength based reflection, to enhance both their practice skills and professional knowledge-base.
- Demonstrated ability to produce written case notes and reports that are clear and structured and evidence sound theoretical understandings, within a structured management and accountability framework, with strict confidentiality considerations.
- Demonstrated time management skills, with ability to balance and prioritise various client engagement, staff management and administrative and reporting requirements.
- Willing and able to work within a culturally safe context and Kurbingui Youth & Family Development’s mission, vision and values.

**Salary**: $46.95 - $49.07 per hour
