**Position Title **Teacher Librarian or Library Technician
**Reports To **Principal
**College Objective **At Geelong Lutheran College it is expected that each staff member will support the
Christian ethos of the school. A good example for Christian living is to be given to
students and parents by words and actions.
The Christian Education environment we offer depends largely on the maturity and
professionalism of all staff. Therefore, it is expected that all staff members co-operate
fully with the Head of College, Principal, Heads of School, other staff and the College
Council in adhering to the policies, teachings and fostering the ethos, culture and
traditions of Geelong Lutheran College.
Staff are expected to support the Christian ethos of Geelong Lutheran College and to
demonstrate courtesy, co-operation and teamwork with fellow members of staff.
**Position Overview **The Teacher Librarian or Library Technician is responsible for the effective and
efficient operations of the College Resource Centre. Working closely with teachers,
the role is responsible for creating a Resource Centre and learning environment that is
vibrant, stimulating, inclusive and welcoming and which supports reading for
pleasure, inquiry and life-long learning.
The Teacher Librarian/Library Technician will continually develop expertise in Digital
Information Technologies related to the Resource Centre environment and be
prepared to share this expertise with others. He/she will be dedicated to providing
innovative and responsive library and information services and programs. This
position assumes a significant level of autonomy and responsibility and the ability to
foster and lead productive working relationships
**Duties and Learning and Support**
**Responsibilities **- Provide a positive and dynamic learning environment that assists students to
seek, critically evaluate, synthesize and present information
- Work collaboratively with teachers and leaders to select curriculum
resources, prepare and deliver high quality learning programs
- Remain abreast of developments in digital information technologies and
provide support and expertise to staff as required
- Help students become confident and capable users of a range of resources
and technologies through the library service
- Work with teachers to design and implement learning programs to teach a
range of information literacy skills, including digital literacy to students
- Be inclusive of the diverse needs of learners and provide relevant and
meaningful learning opportunities for all students
- Management and expansion of our catalogue for resources both in print and
electronic form
- Selection of secondary resources that link with VCE Curriculum
- Curate literature/fiction appropriate for secondary students/young adult
audience
**Literature Promotion**
- Create and maintain a positive, caring and organised learning environment
- Nurture a love of reading and literature in all students
- Recommend suitable reading material in order to inspire, engage and guide
readers
- Promote literature and authors reflecting a variety of cultures and themes
- Encourage and develop student connections to a range of texts, in both
printed and electronic form
- Collaborate with teachers to develop literature-based reading programs
**Organisation and Administration**
- Take overall responsibility for the operation of the library including
management of the budget
- Select resources to support the needs of the College community
- Organise and implement efficient procedures for the delivery of services and
resources to students and staff
- Create dynamic visual displays in the library and organise special events which
connect to school/class activities and support learning
- Attend relevant meetings and functions including staff meetings, parent
teacher interviews and meetings as required
- Develop and document Resource Centre policies in association with College
Leadership as required
- Adhere to all school policies and procedures as outlined in the College’s
policies and procedures
- Effectively use and manage software/digital platforms for the Resource
Centre; including Oliver and Clickview
- Use and relevant digital databases, search and retrieval strategies
- Regularly audit library collection of outdated material.
**Professional Learning**:
- Attend staff professional learning activities as required
- Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional learning
- Participate in the school’s program of professional review.
- Liaise with the GLC St John’s Newtown Library Technician as required
**Communication**
- Establish and maintain effective communication with colleagues
- Provide support, assistance and information for the community to better
develop their understanding and appreciation of the library resources and
services available
- Contribute, as appropriate, articles for the newsletter, Year
