**About the Role**:
Reporting to the Decision Sciences manager, your key accountabilities will include:

- Working with other team members on the development of complex mathematical and computer science algorithms for research exploration and planning, mine planning, supply chain and low emission technology based initiatives.
- The design and prototype of large-scale optimization algorithms, simulation and/or machine learning, deep learning, based on real-world data.
- With reusability in mind, contribute in the development of software implementations of the mathematical models and algorithms in a modularise, well-documented components.
- Research and development of new technologies which will help to contribute to the next generation of advanced mathematical and computer science models used within the group.
- Leverage the power of visualisation to communicate business insights that in-turn enable better decisions within our users.

**About You**:
To be successful in this role, you will be have a strong background in applied mathematics and excellent scientific computing skills, including creativity in the design and development of efficient algorithms. You will have experience implementing algorithms as computer code using object orientated languages (C#, C++, Java, Python etc), being able to work independently with a problem solvers mind-set.

Crucially, you will have exposure to agile ways of working and be a strong team player. It is also expected that you will be willing to share ideas and collaborate with other team members within BHP’s wider Applied Mathematics community.
