**The Role**
Reporting to the Chief Counsel of Workplace Relations Legal, the Executive Officer is responsible for supporting the Chief Counsel, SES team and Division in a range of matters to assist in the efficient operation of the Division.
The Division is made up of approximately 40 lawyers who provide advice on workplace relations, work health and safety and workers’ compensation. The work of the Division is fast-paced and rewarding and involves legislative projects, public interest litigation in courts and the Fair Work Commission, managing Administrative Appeal Tribunal matters for the Fair Entitlements Guarantee program, and provision of specialised legal advice to support the work of our policy colleagues.
The Executive Officer is responsible for tasks requiring coordination across the division, supporting the SES team in strategic governance processes and has a key role in establishing and maintaining legal practice management protocols for the Division, including legal library services and knowledge management. The Executive Officer leads a small admin unit.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
Responsibilities of the Executive Officer may include:
- Preparing and coordinating briefing for the Division
- Supporting practice management tools across the Division and attending the Australian Government Legal Service practice managers forum to ensure the Division is aware of developments in legal practice management across the Commonwealth
- Providing support for the day-to-day operation of the Division regarding budget, finance and procurement matters and strategic governance and business planning processes
- Supporting and co-ordinating Division wide learning and development
- Co-ordinating required reporting, for example, reporting for audit and risk management committee, annual report, and legal services expenditure reporting to Office of Legal Services Co-ordination
- Support employee engagement by supporting the management team to action Census results, implement Division wide initiatives and regular meetings
- Proactively identify initiatives to streamline processes and deliver efficiencies
- Co-ordination with Executive Officers across the Workplace Relations Group, the Deputy Secretary’s office and across the Department.
