ALS Coal Riverview currently has an opportunity available for a Carbonisation Technician. This is a full-time position with the prospect of a long-term career for the right person.

The position is part of the Carbonisation team which operates Mon-Fri between 6:00am and 2:00pm.

**Position Synopsis**:
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the position requirements include but are not limited to:

- Ensuring that all work is carried out in a safe & efficient manner and to agreed standard operating instructions.
- Handling large coal and coke samples and processing them according to current best methods.
- Loading and unloading coal & coke samples from various pilot & small-scale carbonisation ovens.
- A range of physical tests including sample preparation, sizing, crushing, dividing and sample storage.
- Transfer validated results into the reporting system
- Calibration and maintenance of specialised equipment.

**Requirements**:

- A valid forklift licence is desirable but not essential
- A strong focus on safety, quality, and teamwork
- Strong numeracy and literacy skills
- Good grasp of computers/technology
- Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines
- Comfortable with manual handling duties, including repetitive lifting
- Be comfortable in a dusty environment, including wearing respiratory protection for extended periods of time.
- Be comfortable with hot work, including working around ovens operating at 1000 °C
- Clean shaven to accommodate the wearing of respiratory protection
- Competent within a strong safety culture
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new systems

As part of the selection process, a pre-employment medical exam is required, including a drug and alcohol assessment.
