The Museum has an exciting opportunity for a professional to join the Collection Engagement team.

The Collection Engagement Business Unit encompasses the diverse range of activities which make the Museum’s collections discoverable and accessible. These include collection documentation, collection digitisation and digital preservation, supporting and developing the Museum’s Collection Management System (EMu) and Digital Asset Management System (Piction), managing associated IP rights, managing the Library and Archive collections and providing public access to the collection - both online and on-site in the Museum’s collection stores The Business Unit also includes a First Nations Collections section, which is responsible for repatriation, facilitating First Nations community access to collections, and enhancing the knowledge of the First Nations collections held by the Museum.

This position plays a key role in assisting the Collection Digitisation team to deliver its key outcomes through:

- Undertaking simple imaging work relating to the Museum’s collections and related activities. This includes reprographic, studio object photography and other preparatory activities as required.
- Process, colour manage, name, and create preservation master and derivative image files in line with established digital preservation standards and specifications.
- Ensure a high level of quality assurance of image files and associated metadata for ingestion into the Digital Asset Management System
- Maintain technical knowledge of developments in photography and digital imaging, including 3D capture, to enhance skills and enable effective operation.
- Liaise with Museum staff to prepare collection material for photography.
- Provides general assistance to the Collection Digitisation team as required.
- Work collaboratively with team members and with Museum staff from various teams who are physically distributed across multiple sites.

To be successful in this role you will possess effective communication skills, have an ability to work across multi-disciplinary areas of the museum and will be comfortable in supporting a high energy technical team.

You will have experience in the creation of high-quality digital records of cultural objects using photographic and digital imaging technologies and associated software.

With sound knowledge of Collection Management Systems and Digital Asset Management Systems you will ensure a high level of quality assurance of image files and associated metadata for the purpose of facilitating digital access to the Museum’s collections - online and on-site.

**Selection criteria**

1. Relevant technical qualifications and/or photographic experience in a cultural heritage environment, using professional imaging and photographic equipment.

2. Sound knowledge of museum procedures and practices, particularly as they relate to handling a diverse range of objects in accordance with collection management and conservation guidelines

3. Familiarity with, or ability to learn current photographic and digital imaging technologies, including production requirements.

5. Sound organisational and communication skills, with an ability to present accurate and clear information, a systematic approach to dealing with urgent and varied tasks, and an ability to meet set targets.

6. Demonstrated initiative in the workplace and ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams including the capacity to respond to changing priorities within a team environment.
