**Description**:
Security Officers are an important part of the Defence Security Community and contribute to the protection of Defence’s people, information, assets in support of its capabilities and mission. The role of the Security Officer is critical to ensure the desired protective security culture is promoted and maintained.

Security Officers are required to provide Defence Security Policy Framework (DSPF) advice and support on security matters and should have an in-depth understanding of DSPF principles, policies, processes and controls.

The Security Officer reports directly to the Chartertech Head of Corporate Services and will be responsible for ensuring Chartertech maintains its DISP obligations.

As the Security Officer (SO), you will support this by conducting the following duties:
Promoting security awareness and shaping security culture
Providing security advice
Coordinating/conducting security training
Delivering security briefings (eg overseas travel, induction/departure & cyber security)
Verifying clearances for access purposes (physical, ICT, classified meetings, visitors etc)
Ensuring effective access control procedures are followed
Ensuring staff are aware of emergency/incident procedures
Reporting/coordinating security incident and contact reports
Assisting/conducting inquiries post-security incident or assisting a Defence Investigative Authority (DIA) during an investigation

**As part of Chartertech’s assurance regime**:
drafting and maintaining Security Policies and Plans (SPPs)
maintaining a Security Register (SR - 140 personnel and growing)
conducting an Annual Security Report (ASR)

Train and advise employees on how to implement the DSPF
Brief newcomers and old-hands in Chartertech on local security practices
Assist others to find the way forward

Support Managers to make good risk-based decisions
Support Managers to implement the DSPF

**Skills and Experiences**:
MUST be an Australian Citizen and currently hold or are capable of achieving an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) security clearance NV1 or NV2
Experience as a Defence security officer or recently worked in the Defence environment.
In-depth knowledge of the DISP and the Australian Defence Security Protective Framework (DSPF)
Understanding of key Government security frameworks, including the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and the Information Security Manual (ISM)
Excellent Written and verbal communication skills including the ability to liaise with and influence diverse stakeholder groups
Excellent time management skills and a strong attention to detail
Intermediate skill level using the Microsoft suite of Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint

**Qualifications**:
Certificate IV Security Risk Management. Highly desirable.
DS&VS Security Officer Course
DS&VS Risk Management Course
hold a tertiary qualification in Security (Protective or Cyber) or a related discipline. Desirable.
