
Disability Support Worker

**Key Responsibilities**:
- **Personal Care**: Assist a 9-year-old non-verbal boy with daily activities, ensuring his comfort and dignity are maintained at all times.
- **Behavioural Support**: Implement effective strategies to manage and de-escalate aggressive behaviours, utilizing a calm and patient approach to create a safe environment. autism.org.uk
- **Physical Engagement**: Participate in active play and physical activities to meet the child's high energy levels, promoting his physical well-being.
- **Communication Support**: Employ alternative communication methods to facilitate interaction, understanding, and expression, fostering a supportive atmosphere.
- **Collaboration**: Work closely with family members, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to develop and implement individualized support plans tailored to the child's unique needs.
- **Documentation**: Maintain accurate records of the child's progress, behaviours, and any incidents, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with organizational policies.
**Qualifications and Skills**:
- **Experience**: At least 2 years of hands-on experience supporting individuals with autism and managing challenging behaviours.
- **Knowledge**: Familiarity with positive behaviour support techniques and a solid understanding of autism spectrum disorders.
- **Physical Stamina**: Ability to keep pace with an active child, engaging in various physical activities throughout the day.
- **Communication Skills**: Proficiency in using alternative communication tools and techniques to support non-verbal individuals.
- **Personal Attributes**: Patience, empathy, resilience, and a genuine passion for enhancing the quality of life for children with special needs.
**Job Type**: Casual
Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
