Continuing its tradition for excellence in the education of girls, Melbourne Girls Grammar is seeking a knowledgeable, innovative, and engaging Cello teacher to join the collaborative Music Faculty as a Music Itinerant. Music is a vibrant and exciting aspect of co-curricular life at Melbourne Girls Grammar - our students perform in a wide range of ensembles across age, year and instrument levels.
This casual position will teach individual Cello lessons in the Merton Hall Programs (Middle and Senior Years), scope half a day to one day a week, with flexibility on the day.
Applicants should have a strong knowledge of instrumental music teaching pedagogy as well as and instrumental tuition experience. The successful applicant will be a dynamic music educator with the ability to engage and inspire students in lessons and rehearsals.
MGGS seeks educators with an inclusive and a strengths-based approach to program leadership and development. You will bring together the unique skills of the students and staff you work with to create memorable learning experiences and musical performances that celebrate diversity and excellence.
**Key Selection Criteria**:
- **Qualifications**:Tertiary qualifications in Music (Bachelor of Music or equivalent) with a focus on performance or education, and a current Victorian Working With Children Check.
- **Cello Pedagogy & Musicianship**: Strong practical and theoretical knowledge of cello pedagogy, with demonstrated experience teaching individual lessons from beginner to advanced levels. Ability to adapt teaching strategies to support diverse learning styles and skill levels.
- **Teaching Experience Across Year Levels**: Experience teaching students across a range of age groups, ideally from Year 5 to Year 12, with an understanding of developmental stages and technical progression appropriate to each level.
- **Engagement & Motivation**: Demonstrated ability to inspire, engage and motivate students in their musical development, fostering a love for learning and performance. A passion for music education and commitment to nurturing student potential are essential.
- **Inclusive, Strengths-Based Practice**: Commitment to inclusive teaching practices that recognise and build on individual student strengths. Ability to create a supportive and respectful learning environment that encourages participation and growth
- **Technology Integration**: Proficiency in the use of digital tools and learning management systems (LMS) to support music education. Willingness and ability to integrate technology (e.g., notebook computers, multimedia software) into teaching, communication, and program planning.
