The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.

The Australian Border Force, an operationally independent body within the Department of Home Affairs, is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and Australia's customs service. The Australian Border Force's mission is to protect Australia's border and facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods across it.

**Overview of the Branch and Section**:
The Targeting & Operations Support (TAOS) Branch is responsible for delivering threat assessments and operational advice to support immigration, citizenship and enforcement decision-making. TAOS provides critical intelligence enabling support to high-level operations and policy development—ensuring a nuanced understanding of the key and emerging threats in the operational environment— across the Department, portfolio agencies and intelligence partners.

**People Smuggling Intelligence**:
People Smuggling Intelligence (PSI) provides end-to-end intelligence support to the Joint Agency Task Force, Operation Sovereign Borders (JATF-OSB) on maritime people smuggling issues. PSI is a central hub for whole-of-government intelligence analysis relating to the people smuggling threat vector. It analyses and fuses information, supported by intelligence and security partners, to deliver a full suite of intelligence products and services. It provides insights into the people smuggling threat to Australia including: the intent and capability of people smugglers, potential illegal immigrant’s motivations and intentions; and their awareness of Australian Government migration policies. PSI Aviation provides critical intelligence on the people smuggling threat via the aviation stream (PSAS) and provides actionable insights to policy and operational entities to assist with mitigating risk and directly disrupting the criminal networks behind PSAS.

**About the role**

Intelligence Analysts work under limited direction to create moderately complex or sensitive intelligence products to support. These products support operational and policy responses, including review of risk setting, supporting policy changes or operational business practices. Intelligence analysts may be required to support operational areas, external partners or joint task forces and will be expected to represent the Intelligence Division on routine tasks and deliver intelligence outputs.

Primarily, our Intelligence analysts work with program management areas and various portfolio stakeholders to identify and assess threats and vulnerabilities that may exist or emerge within the program.

This is accomplished through a combination of structured analytical research using a broad range of qualitative and quantitative information retrieved from both public and classified data sources to deliver high quality written intelligence products. APS5 Intelligence analyst positions undertake entity and network analysis, plan and scope moderately complex intelligence requirements and support Senior Intelligence analysts during engagement and collaboration with stakeholders and other thematic teams on identified issues. They are responsible for preparing written operational intelligence products that are sophisticated, predictive, valid, informative and within scope ensuring the customers needs are met.

If you have a keen interest in international affairs and want to disrupt transnational criminal networks seeking to undermine our borders, we want to hear from you

We are looking for analysts who are inquisitive, can thrive in a rapidly evolving multi-agency environment and want to hone their analytical and liaison skills. People smuggling syndicates frequently adapt their tactics, so we need analysts who can anticipate their next move.
