The Postdoctoral Fellow will be responsible for supporting academic activities as part of a multidisciplinary team of researchers in the area of adolescent mental health research. The incumbent will be actively involved in supporting the Black Dog Institute's 'Future Proofing' research trial, a 5-year prospective cohort study involving over 6,300 Australian adolescents that aims to understand the risk factors and developmental trajectories associated with mental ill health in young people.

The role of Postdoctoral Fellow will report to the Associate Professor and has no direct reports.

**Key Accountabilities (but not limited to)**:

- Conduct research and contribute to the preparation of research outputs, including reports and manuscripts for publication in high impact journals.
- Assist with designing, developing, and conducting data analyses ensuring all research is conducted to a high methodological and ethical standard.
- Undertake discipline appropriate research activities (e.g., literature reviews, data collection, analysis and recording of results).
- Participate in and/or present at conferences and workshops relevant to the project(s) as required.
- Support the day-to-day management of allocated research projects, including managing ethics submissions, reporting to funding bodies, data governance and integrity, analysis (including statistical) and reporting of results.

**Skills Required**:

- PhD in psychology, epidemiology, public health, and/or relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity, strengthened by an ability or potential to attract external research funding.
- Demonstrated experience working with large and/or complex datasets.
- Demonstrated experience in analysing and interpreting research data using statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS, STATA, MPlus and/or SAS).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a goal-directed manner yet collaboratively with other staff and external providers.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with all levels of staff, students, management, collaborators, and general public.
- Demonstrated experience in working on/participating in complex research projects, including ability to meet project requirements and deadlines.
- High attention to detail, including use of structured approaches to data management, documenting research methodologies and findings, maintaining version control over shared documents, and adhering to established guidelines and formatting requirements (e.g., APA-style referencing, following grant formatting guidelines).
- Experience providing mentorship to students and more junior research staff.
- Experience with school-based research and/or adolescent mental health research, non-essential but preferred.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
