St Vincent's is seeking a suitable applicant who has completed joint haematology advanced training and have a demonstrated interest and expertise in molecular biology and molecular diagnosis/testing relevant to haematology. The position has been funded by RCPA STP and SydPath and the applicant will be based solely in the laboratory with no clinical duties.

**What you'll be doing**
The successful applicant will have completed joint haematology advanced training and have a demonstrated interest and expertise in molecular biology and molecular diagnosis/testing relevant to haematology. The position has been funded by RCPA STP and SydPath and the applicant will be based solely in the laboratory with no clinical duties.
**Duties include the**following**:
- Undertake training in Modules 2, 3 and/or 4 of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) certification modules in genetic/genomic pathology in haematology with the aim of gaining accreditation in one or more modules (supervision by David Jones, Dr Michael Krigstein, Dr Joanne Joseph and Professor David Ma)
**Work with scientific staff to**:
- Review all haematology requests for cytogenetics, FISH, array, NGS and other molecular sendaways to ensure appropriateness of testing and where applicable, discuss with ordering clinician directly (potential to reduce the number of inappropriate tests and reduce costs)
- It is envisaged that the successful applicant would have direct hands-on laboratory experience and would participate in developing and validating new assays within division
- Review results and write initial reports on assays run within the molecular haematology department
- Develop protocols for molecular testing for all haematological malignancies that are based on published guidelines to harmonise practice within the clinical haematology department
- Involvement in teaching of scientific and medical staff in relation to molecular haematology
- Active participation in relevant research being conducted within the diagnostic laboratory
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Successful completion of FRACP and FRCPA Examinations in Haematology or equivalent and demonstrated commitment to Haematology Advanced Training program.
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills and expertise in molecular biology and molecular diagnosis/testing relevant to haematology.
- Ascertainment or working towards ascertainment of extension of scope of practice in additional RCPA certification modules in genetic/genomic pathology in haematology is desirable but not essential
- Commitment to laboratory haematology as a professional goal and at least six 6 year's full time postgraduate experience.
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills
