We are Currently seeking an experienced Building Compliance Officer for one of our Local Government Clients. As a Building Compliance Officer you will be reporting to the Coordinator Building Surveying and assist them with the City’s building control related activities to ensure they are undertaken in accordance with required standards and relevant legislation and meet organisational objectives.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Investigate, report and make recommendations on possible action for breaches of legislation on unauthorised and noncomplying building activity
- Negotiate with developers, builders, land owners and residents to facilitate a resolution to conflicts
- Undertake inspections of swimming pool and spa gates and fences
- Undertake inspections and report on dilapidated or dangerous buildings making recommendations on possible action
- Undertake the assessment, preparation and issuing of allocated Demolition Permits and Verge Permits
- Collate and maintain regular and ad hoc reports, registers and statistics to meet internal and external requirements and in particular, maintain a register of relevant compliance data identifying significant trends and referring any relevant issues and corrective action as required
- Receive public and internal enquiries particularly in relation to general building regulatory issues, taking appropriate action in line with established policies and practices and with the aim of maintaining a strong customer focused service
- Possession of, or progressing towards an appropriate qualification in Building Services
- Previous relevant experience in building surveying
- Well developed interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Good written communication skills.
- Ability to undertake investigations, gather evidence and report findings whilst maintaining the appropriate level of confidentiality
- Well developed organisational and administrative skills.
- Ability to work effectively both as a team member and independently with mínimal supervision
- Previous relevant experience within Local Government or similar environment will be an added advantage.
