The Risk and Legal team is rapidly progressing in its quest to build best in class risk management capability within UniSuper. As part of this journey, we are uplifting our focus from “process of risk management” to advising the business on managing risks.
You, as a part of the Risk & Legal team, will help shape, influence, and challenge the way our business teams think about risk and enable the implementation of our numerous risk and compliance frameworks. The role will interface with several business units to provide Line 2 assurance and oversight to these businesses.
On a day-to-day basis you will work closely with the Enterprise Risk team, the Internal Audit function, and the line 1 functions you partner with.
Your key objectives will include:
- Ensuring the quality of risk discussions is of sufficient standard and influence appropriately when this is not the case.
- Ensuring that risk and assurance change programs (e.g. regulatory change, system implementation, risk policies, etc.) are designed in a way that ensures the desired behaviours are embedded into the operating rhythm and practices of the business.
- Providing input into the design of risk and assurance policies and frameworks, ensuring that they are fit for purpose and easy to implement.
- Providing oversight and challenge of major projects and BAU changes your business units are responsible for delivering to ensure risk is being appropriately considered, assessed and reported.
- Providing independent insight into business risks, identifying where they are not being managed within appetite, while elevating risk insights by overseeing data quality, contributing to executive and board-level reporting, and collaborating with the business to surface emerging risks.
- Acting as a key liaison in the delivery of training, education and support, ensuring a consistent and efficient engagement model between the business and specialist teams within Risk and Legal.
- Working with the Operational Risk team in Risk & Legal, you will provide input into the preparation of relevant reporting for key governance forums.

For this reason, we are looking for someone who has experience working in a fast-moving transformation environment and is comfortable working with a degree of ambiguity.
Furthermore, you will have:
- Extensive professional experience in compliance, operational risk, and audit roles, ideally within financial services or other highly regulated environments.
- Previous experience in business partnering or stakeholder management is essential, preferably in superannuation or financial services.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with senior stakeholders and influence appropriately when required.
- Experience partnering with marketing and growth teams to ensure risk and compliance considerations are embedded in campaigns, member engagement strategies, and digital product development.
- Understanding of how to translate regulatory and legislative requirements and risk management frameworks into actions and activities that result in positive change that adds value to the business. Some experience in project risk management preferred.
- Ability to balance commercial and strategic objectives with risk management, enabling safe and sustainable business growth.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exposure to Marketing or Distribution, Digital or PDS compliance would be preferred.
- Risk, Compliance, and Audit qualifications and/or relevant accreditations are preferred.
