**About the Role**:
Skills and Jobs Centre (SJC) team to provide high quality impartial assistance and support to Retrenched Workers, Disengaged Youth, Unemployed, Apprentices and CALD students in relation to counselling and referral of participants to community services.

As the Careers and Pathway Advisor, you will deliver professional and proactive course and career advice in the Skills and Jobs Centre. You will liaise with prospective and existing VE students, employers, apprentices, unemployed and transitioning workers. Your role will include providing one-on-one counselling sessions as well as delivering work readiness workshops in schools and Community Services organisations.

The incumbent commits to contribute to the SJC’s commitment to operate under the following DET 5 key Service Delivery Framework Guidelines:

- Operate in line with government priorities and triage clients into appropriate government initiatives.
- Provide training and course advice and referrals.
- Coordinate with and refer participants to appropriate community service and job readiness service providers.
- Work with local industry and employers.

**Duties**:

- Provide individual careers advise and support services to clients.
- Provide career advise and support services for individuals and groups, which result in job seekers making informed training and employment decisions.
- Review job seeker skills base and make recommendations regarding their employment pathway or upskilling options.
- Research industry trends and employability requirements and develop operational plans for the SJC to use when providing careers advise to clients.
- Provide timely and contemporary advice on the sustainability and trends of industry sectors and appropriate vocational training to gain entry. Using relevant industry websites e.g., Vic Skills Gateway; Job Outlook; MyFuture; AA Pathways; PIVOT.
- Build robust relationships with community stakeholders to ensure a strong service culture within the team.

**Skills and Experience Required**:

- Relevant qualification in Career Development or 3+ years’ experience in a related role.
- Knowledge of career development theory and practice, with experience in individual careers development.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the labor market trends, TAFE and Community Services sectors.
- High level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with wide range of customers from a range of cultural backgrounds.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality and continuous improvement, to proactively drive creative and innovative solutions within a customer service content.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and adapt to strategic priorities in order to establish new ways of working and create a culture of continuous improvement. Demonstrated diagnostic, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the proven ability to exercise autonomous judgement.
- Current Working with Children Check (Employee) - mandatory.
- Valid National Police Check - mandatory.
