The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a **General Manager** to provide a critical role at Barwon Prison.

**About the Business Unit**

Corrections Victoria is a business unit of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). Corrections Victoria's vision is ‘Safer prisons, safer people, safer communities'. Our mission is to have ‘A safer, smarter system with a skilled and supported workforce, that enables people in our care to make better decisions'.

HM Prison Barwon is a maximum-security prison located 6km north-west of Lara, 20km from the centre of Geelong and about 70km from Melbourne and is part of the Barwon South-West Regional structure. It is Victoria's major maximum-security prison for sentenced male prisoners. The prison officially opened in January 1990 and currently houses up to 416 men in custody, including high security, long term management, protection (including specialist protection), general mainstream (maximum security) and medium security prisoners.

**About the Role**

The General Manager is responsible for creating and sustaining a workforce culture built on solid values, professional excellence, and teamwork. The prison contributes to a safe and just Victorian community in which prisoners are constructively engaged and challenged to use their term of imprisonment wisely to promote the best prospects of rehabilitation.

Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner, Custodial Operations, the General Manager leads and manages the delivery of all correctional services to achieve the safe custody, welfare, and rehabilitation of prisoners in accordance with the policies and standards set out by the Commissioner, Corrections Victoria in the Commissioners Requirements, Deputy Commissioner Instructions and Service Delivery Outcomes.

Some of your duties will include:

- Lead by example and demonstrate in your day-to-day interactions each of the DJCS values and behaviours and be accountable for your actions.
- Develop, implement, and manage all aspects of the strategic and day-to-day operations of a prison, managing the security, safety, rehabilitative and infrastructure requirements, and deliverables of the prison.
- Actively lead and manage the dynamic security foundation principles to promote a safe and secure prison environment by influencing direction on a range of service processes and systems to support the compliance of established standards and mandated requirements. Maintain a healthy and safe workplace by acting immediately upon the receipt of any bullying, discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment, or inappropriate behaviour complaint, report, or observation.

**About you**

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Extensive experience managing people, directing, overseeing, and managing daily business activities and developing and implementing effective business strategies and programs.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse the success of whole of prison programs, strategies and initiatives including the ability to critically evaluate security and offender management issues.
- Knowledge of the _Corrections Act 1986 _and Corrections Regulations 2019.

**Qualifications/requirements**
- A qualification in Business Management/Human Resource related discipline or commensurate experience to meet the key accountabilities relevant to this role is desirable.
- A full and current Victorian driver's licence or a minimum P2 driver's licence.
