**The Role**
Data is a strategic asset in all aspects of Government and Defence. When presented clearly and visually, data has enormous potential for increased transparency, improving mission critical outcomes and delivery of performance outcomes in a more operationally effective and efficient manner. Headquarters Forces Command is an organisation of approximately 9,000 people, responsible for training of Army’s people and teams.

The EL 1 Data Analyst is accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex data analysis work within an integrated workforce. They will be required to work within compliance and legislative frameworks, the government decision-making process and Defence’s mission and policy requirements. The EL 1 Data Analyst will lead a small team and will be accountable for the outcomes of the team’s work and the appropriate use of resources to produce and achieve outcomes.

The EL 1 Data Analyst will be responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships and will be required to identify relevant stakeholders’ expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development of their work area. This position will have people management responsibility and as such will be required to exercise people management skills to lead a high performing, and cohesive team.

**About our Team**
Data & analytics is a strategic asset for Forces Command, enabling performance and risk to be measured in line with informed and data-driven decision-making. It is a focus area for Army and Defence, aligned with new and emerging IT systems and data analysis tools being deployed across the workforce. The Data Analytics Team reports to the Director Workforce Management, who is a principal adviser to the General Officer responsible for Forces Command and Army’s training system. The Data Analytics team is a small group of full time and part time members providing strategic advice to senior leadership across a range of operation and strategic issues.

- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Proven experience (2+ years) as a Data Analyst or in a related role.
- Strong proficiency with data analysis tools and languages, such as SQL, Python, or R.
- Experience with data visualisation tools like Power BI, Tableau, or similar.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to collect, organise, analyse, and interpret large datasets with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis and modeling techniques.
- A strong ability to communicate effectively, in particular the ability to explain complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.
- A willingness to undertake further development and skills acquisition in emerging data analytics and reporting tools and methodologies.
- The ability to grow in the job to learn new systems and tools within Defence.
- The ability to operate within a legislative and compliance framework.
- Be able to lead a team and with the ability to work collaboratively with wider stakeholder groups.
