About us
The West Moreton Education and Training Centre (WMETC) is a co-educational school that delivers educational programs for up to 32 remanded and sentenced young people at the West Moreton Youth Detention Centre located in Wacol. WMETC is an independent campus of the Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre (BYETC). The centre operates on a 1:4 teacher-student ratio, delivering a predominantly vocational curriculum. The school plays an important role in the community by providing young people in detention with the opportunity to gain knowledge, skills, and values that can enhance their capacity to pursue positive choices in the future.
Our staff are passionate about helping improve and unlock our students' skillsets and abilities, many of whom have had disrupted or negative schooling experiences. We seek to educate the whole person by providing opportunities for growth, development and learning, which will prepare young people for a balanced worthwhile future.
Your role Your responsibilities within this role will include, but are not limited to:
- Be part of the professional team working with the school and the community and liaise with students, teachers, administrative officers, community based organisations and other government departments.
- Collaborate in the development and implementation of the Student Wellbeing and Personal Development Program
- Maintain spreadsheets, databases and accurate record keeping to measure program success
- Contribute to a positive, caring and supportive school image in the community.
- Monitor post program support as required and conduct one-on-one interviews with program attendees (students, youth workers, school support staff) to record and understand thoughts and experiences of individuals attending Wellbeing and Personal Development programs.
- Develop, implement and support program delivery aligned to our desistance and wellbeing frameworks
- Liaising between school community members such as students, teachers, administration, Transition Officers in understanding strategies to coordinate and collaborate on positive outcomes for students
**Your focus will also include**:
- Supervision of small groups of students and assisting students in completing engagement programs.
- Monitoring and data collection to provide a framework to report on to enhance student learning
The successful applicant may be required to work across our multiple campuses. A relevant qualification and experience working with youth services will be highly regarded.
**Mandatory requirements**:
- When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
