The University of Wollongong (UOW) employs in excess of 2,500 people in a diverse range of academic and professional occupation groups and modes of employment across approximately 20 major business units (Faculties and Divisions).

The Wellbeing Health and Safety Unit provides advice and support to University of Wollongong workers, students, contractors and visitors to ensure that health and safety risks can be managed in accordance with the UOW WHS Management System.

We are seeking a WHS Advisor (Science) who will actively promote science safety requirements within the UOW community, coordinate key activities, interpret and advise on compliance guidelines, standards and legislation and will be a key contact for researchers and accrediting agencies.

You will implement and monitor the university’s Biosafety framework, ensuring a safe and compliant environment for researchers working with biological agents. You will participate in planning, designing and installation stages of proposed biological containment facilities, coordinate and maintain a central register of import permits for any imported biological or biosecurity materials.

The WHS Advisor (Science) will have active involvement in the investigation and corrective action plans for any radiation, biological or biosafety incidents and will provide professional advice and support to faculties and divisions in a timely manner.
