**The Opportunity**

The Environmental Advisor provides a key role in supporting Austal’s Environmental and Sustainability compliance and strategy activities, acting as a key business resource for technical and advisory matters relating to all aspects environmental.

Whilst implementing the Environmental Management System on a national scale, the Environmental Advisor directly supports HSE and Management Teams within their respective jurisdictions at multiple levels within the business.

The introduction of this role is timely and critical to support future planned programs of work, reduce external consultant engagement impacts, and deliver key environmental and sustainability objectives and commitments.

**What’s involved**
- Develop, implement, and maintain Austal’s Environmental Management System.
- Assure that (for each Business Unit applicable) Austal’s Environmental Management System certification (ISO ISO 14001) is maintained.
- Provide technical advice and support to the HSE team regarding environmental matters.
- Environmental Aspects and Impacts are identified, assessed and responsible parties consulted/supported.
- Support accurate and relevant environmental performance monitoring
- Provide technical advice and support to senior leaders to allow for best for business considerations.

**You’ll need**

**_ Essential_**
- Diploma of Environmental Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in an Environmental advisor or compliance role, preferably a regulated industry.
- Strong knowledge of Environment and Quality Management System frameworks, such as ISO 14001, 9001.
- Experience in data analysis for environmental aspects.
- Familiarity with incident investigation methodologies, such as ICAM or Root Cause Analysis.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in conducting internal management system audits.
- Travel frequency (approx. x2 weeks per year)

**_ Desirable_**
- Strong knowledge of Western Australia, Queensland and Northern Territory Environmental legislative framework and compliance requirements.
- Internal Auditor Trained.
- Ability to manage complex projects and navigate matrix organisations, where roles often span across functions, business units and geographies.
- Marine Construction/Shipbuilding experience.
- ESG/Climate based reporting experience.
