Crew Leader Horticultural Maintenance

Glen Eira City Councils Parks Services Department is looking for Horticultural Maintenance Crew Leaders who are passionate and driven to provide excellent care of Glen Eira City Council's parks and gardens. The role is responsible for leading a dedicated team working in partnership with stakeholders, both internal and external, to maintain our existing assets and places as well as create new, vibrant and sustainable ones that meet the current and future needs of our community.

**About the role**
The Crew Leader Horticultural Maintenance oversees and undertakes day-to-day horticultural maintenance associated with the care of Council's parks and gardens. The position is an integral part of the Parks team and is responsible for providing services that meet the needs of customers across the range of local government open space services and planning for the delivery of services and monitoring the performance of service providers.
In this role you will:
- Assist the Team Leader Horticultural Maintenance in directing work teams to maintain parks and open spaces to specified standards in the areas of mowing, landscaping, weed control, cleaning, trimming and other associated park maintenance functions.
- Organise other staff and supervise their work when working as part of a team.
- Foster a positive team culture and be a role model the demonstration of the councils organisational values
- Ensure crew members are routinely maintaining equipment in accordance with maintenance procedures to maximise safety and clean working conditions, immediately highlight any incidents of inappropriate use or mechanical abuse to the Team Leader.
- Ensure all OH & S/Risk Management requirements and specific staff's training needs are being met.
- Other responsibilities include/ Day to day duties include but not limited to_:
- Undertake other duties as and when directed by the Coordinator Open Space Maintenance.
- Carry out horticultural maintenance operations requiring a high level of skill and judgment as well as organise horticultural construction and development works.
- Conduct regular perception and condition audits on Parks.
- Monitor irrigation and rectification works in parks and open space
- Contribute to an accurate plant inventory for all sites and prepare lists detailing plant replacement requirements.
- Present timesheets and monitor Rostered Day Off entitlements for staff within the unit and ensuring the correct and timely completion and submission of own and other operational work team's documentation such as internal reporting sheets, Job Costing and service request via Confirm & Pathway IT systems, plant checklists and other customer tracking system request sheets through the utilisation of mobile equipment.
**About you**
You are passionate about horticulture and high quality public open space, with key leadership abilities and qualities including supervising and communicating with staff. The role requires experience with safe operation and maintenance of a range of turf and horticultural plant and equipment. You are willing to identify and recommend improvements and/or modifications to work processes to foster a continuous improvement mindset in your team and improve the quality of open space maintenance throughout your area of responsibility.
The following is also required:
- Trade Certificate in Turf, Horticulture or Landscape Management or substantial on-the-job experience in the parks/landscaping maintenance field
- Ability to carry out a wide range of parks and gardens activities and to carry out emergency control procedures relating to parks and gardens.
- Demonstrated commitment and adherence to organisational values and behaviours
- Experience in communicating, liaising and interacting with the general public.
- Experience in utilisation of parks/landscaping related asset management systems.
- A level of physical fitness required to perform the physical inherent requirements to the position
- Current Australian Drivers licence
- Excellent judgement and management skills to effectively lead and direct the team, while understanding the requirements of the role and team.
- A satisfactory Police Records Check and Working with Children Check (WWCC) is required for this position.
