As the Head of Group Tax, you will partner with the Interim CFO/Group Financial Controller to ensure Iress meets all tax compliance, reporting and governance requirements in the jurisdictions that Iress operates (Australia, UK, South Africa, Canada, France) and to provide tax support to the global Iress business on all direct and indirect taxes.
You will also play a key role in revisiting the transfer pricing regime as part of the recent changes to organisation structure and operating model.
Some of the awesome things you’ll be involved with:
- Management of the Iress Tax team_- Providing leadership and coaching to the Iress internal tax team
- Compliance_
Oversight of the preparation and review of Australian domestic and foreign tax compliance including:
- Review of Australian and foreign income tax returns, and accompanying schedules- Review BAS/VAT returns- Review of other tax compliance items including but not limited to: FBT returns; withholding tax obligations; tax instalment obligations- Ongoing monitoring of the Group’s transfer pricing policies and implementation- Assist the broader finance team with tax compliance related queries
- Tax Governance_
Management of the Group’s Tax governance and risk management framework including:
- Ensuring that tax related matters are dealt with in a manner consistent with the Group’s tax risk appetite- Oversight of tax control documentation and annual independent testing- Review of the Group’s annual Tax Transparency Report- Preparation of quarterly tax updates to the Group’s Audit & Risk Committee- Considering the impact of tax-related Government announcements (in Australia and overseas) on Iress- Regular review of the Group’s tax policy to ensure it remains relevant to the operations of the Group and external expectations and requirements
- Statutory reporting_
Oversight of the preparation and review of periodic tax statutory reporting including:
- Preparation and review of tax statutory reporting workings including for the global Iress Group and individual Australian and foreign group entities- Preparation and review of tax disclosures in all statutory reports- Working with external advisors and independent auditors in the resolution of statutory tax related queries
- Relationship management_- Management of external tax advisors and management of the associated budget- Management of the relationship and queries from the Australian Tax Office and foreign tax authorities
- Advisory_
Providing tax advice to the global group on business transactions, including international related party dealings and M&A activity including:
- Working with external tax and legal advisors to identify tax issues in relation to new transactions and acquisitions- Establishing and executing tax step plans for new transactions and projects such as the disposal and acquisition of Group subsidiaries- Research and analysis of tax impacts of proposed business transactions- Preparation of tax notes to file on tax technical issues impacting the group
- Training and educating_
Adding to the tax technical knowledge of the group tax team and increasing tax awareness throughout Iress Finance including:
- Preparing and presenting tax training materials to the Finance team- Maintaining a register of tax issues impacting the group- Attending tax technical training presented by external parties
- Systems and Processes_
Optimise tax processes and workpapers including:
- Identifying potential weaknesses and inefficiencies in current processes and workpapers- Development of new tax models and workpapers- Assisting in the design and implementation of new tax systems, including external tax software solutions- Maintenance of clear and comprehensive electronic tax records
What you will bring:
- Relevant tertiary degree (e.g. Bachelor of Commerce/Law, etc.)- Professional Qualification (e.g. CA, CPA, Chartered Tax Advisor, etc.)- 7 years+ of tax experience with professional services or in-house corporate- Excellent knowledge and experience in corporate and international tax including experience in dealing with transfer pricing- Practical knowledge and experience in a broad range of taxes will be preferred, including, but not limited to GST, royalty withholding taxe
