- The Research Assistant will undertake research activities in line with the University’s research strategy. It is expected that the Research Fellow will work with an increasing degree of autonomy as skills and experience develop.

We are seeking a passionate Clinical biomechanist and data manager Research Fellow to work as part of the Motion Connect Team on a nationally funded MRFF research data infrastructure project. The project aims to inform orthopaedic surgery in children with cerebral palsy and gait pathology in Australia and New Zealand.

Our vision is to collaboratively develop a national databank across the seven tertiary hospitals with a clinical gait analysis service throughout Australia & New Zealand. The purpose of this position is to assist and advise on the development of the databank infrastructure and to support the workflow at the participating gait analysis clinics and researchers. This will include review, processing and uploading of clinical and gait data to our national databank. This involves working with a range of data types: physical exam measures, surgical and diagnostic information, gait analysis data from motion capture systems and processing gait data using an OpenSim workflow.

The Research Fellow will work with and under the direction of the site principal investigator as well as our collaborators from other sites.
- This is a part-time position for 3 years at 0.4 FTE (14.4 hours).

To be successful in this position, you will have:
- Evidence of experience in motion capture, biomechanics and 3d clinical gait analysis, including the capture, processing, data analysis, and clinical interpretation.- Relevant postgraduate qualification in Biomechanics related discipline.- At least 3 years of work experience as a clinical biomechanist in a clinical gait analysis service.- Experience in database programming for 3D gait analysis data, including the use of python, Microsoft access, and MySQL.- Working with clinicians such as orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists and child neurologists.- Lecturing at Biomechanics undergraduate course.- Evidence of research output including publications, conference contributions and/or technical reports in the field.- Ability to generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government.- Ability to work autonomously whilst displaying a strong commitment to work in a team environment, including the demonstrated ability to confidently and effectively work with colleagues, project team leaders, and industry partners.- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required- Demonstrated high level communication skills.
