Join the team and be a Discovery Guide (Tour Guide) and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna, and Aboriginal heritage.

**About the role**

The Blue Mountains Branch is currently seeking to appoint a Discovery Guide to deliver guided tours, walks and learning experiences for visitors of Wombeyan Caves Karst Conservation Reserve (WKCR) to foster community awareness, appreciation and understanding for conserving the state’s natural and cultural heritage. This educational role will focus on conducting weekday and weekend excursions for primary and secondary school groups and leisure groups as well as being involved in some weekend and school holiday leisure programs. The primary focus of the guided tours is the limestone caves of which there are several open to the public. You will lead cave inspections with up to 40 people as you deliver an interesting, educational, and enjoyable experience. Other tours may include above-ground walks and adventure activities.

The team at Wombeyan operate in a multi-faceted work environment with a diversity of assets to maintain as part of a remote operation. All staff may be called on to conduct hygiene duties and minor maintenance tasks to ensure the efficiency of the tourism product. This role is also responsible for reporting any faults or breakdowns to their supervisor (such as malfunctioning cave lighting), as well as any suspicious behaviour from the public.

**About you**

Your strong communication skills are paramount to the success of this role. You will be delivering programs to different stakeholders and will need to be able to think on your feet to respond to various questions and situations. Self-management is important for this role as there may be times you will be working alone and will need to ensure safety is a priority meeting the required Work Health Safety standards. Your experience in teaching and education will be highly valued including your demonstrated passion for geography, geology, science and history, the Australian environment and awareness of NPWS values.
