**KSC5** Demonstrated organisational and time management skills in a work environment where day to day priorities and tasks may vary considerably.

**Role**:
The primary objective of the Careers Counsellor at Mount Rowan Secondary College is to support the implementation and organisation of Careers Education, VET and Work Placement programs.

In conjunction, this role will also have an involvement in providing targeted support for programs, which align with the schools strategic plan by achieving improvement in student engagement and their connection to school. The Careers Counsellor at Mount Rowan Secondary College works within a team and reports to the Careers and Partnerships Leader.

**Responsibilities**

The Careers Counsellor will participate as a member of the team, supporting staff across the school to implement Careers Education programs.
- Provide expertise and support to students and staff regarding careers programs (including Work Experience and Morrisby Testing), VTAC, SEAS, Scholarships and Access and Pathways programs for tertiary study.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships both within the team/school and with external stakeholders, including tertiary education providers, support agencies, LLEN, employers, RTOs and Job Network providers.
- Demonstrate understanding as to the issues and barriers faced by students from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds and the ability to link them to programs and services to support their specific careers and transition needs.
- Provide careers expertise and support to counsel students and their parents, regarding pathways and transition.
- Manage and maintain a library of material suitable for use by students in class situations and within the careers department.
- Work collaboratively within the careers team to ensure programs outside core responsibilities are supported, when needed.
- Ensure relevant knowledge is kept updated through attendance at appropriate Professional Development activities.
- Other duties as directed by the Principal or delegate

**Provide assistance in the management of**:
1. Delivery and administration of a range of career support services.

2. Professional career counselling services and advice for students regarding options relating to careers, courses, pathways, and vocations.

3. Present careers-based information sessions in classes.

4. Engage with the Pathways team to support students access the appropriate apprenticeships, traineeship and/or pathway opportunities.

5. Attend outside agency meetings such as Careers Practitioners Seminars & relevant meetings.

6. Administrative tasks to support the administration of incursions and excursions.

7. Monitor and communicate with key stakeholder regarding student attendance at VET courses and other external student learning programs.

**Responsibilities**:
1. VASS experience preferred, yet not required, with a clear understanding of the VCAA requirements.

2. Strong communication, planning and scheduling skills are required to enable adherence to VCAA timelines.

3. Working collaboratively with staff, ensuring all enrolments and changes are entered and regularly updated on VASS.

4. Qualifications preferred are: Graduate Certificate in Career Education or Career Development, or be open to further study in the first 12 months to become qualified as a Career Practitioner.
