**EL 1 Assistant Director**
The role of the Assistant Director - Quality and Safety reports to the Director Quality and Safety. This role will provide support to the Quality and Safety team within the department in the areas of quality and safety, continuous improvement, program and procedure development, accreditation processes and other relevant priorities to support national operations.
The position requires strong writing skills, critical thinking, analytical ability and organisational skills. A background in healthcare along with effective written and verbal communication skills are essential to the role, with experience in project management highly desirable.
The occupant of this position is required to deliver high quality advice and professional services with limited guidance in the areas of quality and safety. The role requires the preparation of briefing papers, submissions and correspondence for use in internal and external decision-making forums at a high level.
The occupant of this position is required to provide professional leadership, build capability and act as a resource to the Quality and Safety team, working in an agile manner. Some staff supervision may be required.
The occupant of this position will collaborate with the Business Operations and Regional Operations and other government departments and agencies to support positive outcomes for veterans and their families.
**Duties**
- Manage the Quality and Safety priorities to support high quality mental health service delivery.
This includes but is not limited to:
- Manage the Adverse Event Analysis procedure for our client.
- Provide Secretariat support for the Quality and Safety Committee.
- Support the delivery of specific information/training/education to staff about Continuous Quality Improvement.
- Manage the client's continuous quality improvement register.
- Support the collection of relevant data across the department to report against the Mental Health and Wellbeing Services Division (MHWSD) Internal Quality and Safety Standards.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve Section, Branch and Agency goals as part of the Commonwealth Government’s broader business, by anticipating and responding to stakeholder needs.
- In conjunction with the Quality and Safety Director and Clinical Operations Director, manage strategic planning for longer-term initiatives, including maintaining mental health accreditation.
- Manage documentation to track, monitor, and report on projects and business as usual activities.
- Develop and review advice, input, briefings, papers, submissions, and correspondence for use in both internal and external decision-making forums.
- Provide supervision, mentoring and coaching for direct reports to effectively manage performance and encourage professional growth.

Mandatory Requirements or Skills And Experience
- Qualifications in Psychology, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Policy development experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the development and delivery of health or social services.
- Program Management experience.
- Staff and team management experience.
- A high standard of written and oral communication is essential for this role.
- This role has many competing priorities. The successful applicant must be IT proficient and able to work flexibly across multiple issues with limited guidance.
- There is a high degree of stakeholder engagement in this role, requiring the successful applicant to have extensive stakeholder management experience and demonstrated communication skills to effectively manage these relationships.
