About us
Corrections and Justice Services (CJS) understands that to reduce the overrepresentation of Aboriginal people in the justice system and to achieve a reduction in the rate of reoffending, unique strategies and initiatives must be implemented.
Through its long-standing commitment to the Aboriginal Justice Agreement, the Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing Plan, the Koori Inclusion Action Plan and in partnership with the Victorian Aboriginal community, CJS has developed this unique Aboriginal Practice Adviser role.
About the role
As the Aboriginal Professional Practice Adviser you will undertake regular monitoring of regional performance and contribute to the formation of policy and procedures that strengthen culturally appropriate case practice. The role will support regional specific workforce development initiatives with connecting Aboriginal clients to supports and services.
Based in Melbourne's northern metropolitan suburbs, this role supports and develops case management staff to enhance their ability to provide culturally appropriate practice; whilst increasing knowledge of Aboriginal culture and building cultural capacity across all CCS positions. This includes guiding CCS staff to improve connectedness to programs and cultural supports for Aboriginal clients.
**To be successful in this role you will have**:
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal community, both society and culture, and the issues impacting it.
- Demonstrated knowledge of culturally safe and supportive case management practices for Aboriginal clients, using these skills to influence case management practice to reduce risk and maximise individual outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and work effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community.
No relevant tertiary qualification is required but experience in dealing with the complex needs of Aboriginal people and community in complex environments and other relevant experience is desired.
