At the Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) we work for the people of Victoria by helping the government achieve its strategic objectives. We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Executive Officer for our Deputy Secretary, Cabinet, Legal and Governance Group (CLG) which provides senior executive leadership and strategic direction, delivering innovative and practical solutions for emerging policy issues facing the Victorian Government. The group Deputy Secretary may also be appointed as the Department's General Counsel.
The CLG oversees Cabinet management and unifies DPC's efforts to promote good government, sound risk management, and high-quality decision and policy making.
As the Deputy Secretary, you will be part of DPC's senior leadership team and Board of Management, leading and managing the CLG group to ensure efficient and effective performance of its functions in accordance with DPC's Corporate Plan. As the General Counsel, you will provide independent counsel, including legal and legal policy advice, to the Premier, the Secretary, Deputy Secretaries and other executives in DPC, including assisting other groups with legal and legal policy advice.
You will be considered for the Deputy Secretary role exclusively, or jointly as Deputy Secretary and General Counsel.
About you
- Experience as a seasoned leader at an executive level within government
- Excellent influencing, negotiation and relationship-management skills
- Proven conceptual and analytical skills
- Demonstrated experience in leading complex projects
- Effective people management skills

Essential are a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, or eligibility to be admitted to practice law in an Australian jurisdiction and for a Victorian Local Practising Certificate as the General Counsel.
