
Spatial Information Officer

Key Duties and Accountabilities
- Contribute to the creation of innovative solutions and efficient processes associated with petabyte-scale spatial imagery (satellite, piloted aerial, drone, ground-based) and elevation (including LiDAR) data management, discovery, and supply. Contribute to the system administration of critical storage and compute infrastructure in a hybrid on-premises / cloud environment
- Maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies associated with spatial data management. Assist internal and external customers to ensure the business unit meets the needs of those customers. Provide technical advice to departmental officers and customers in the field of spatial data management. Assist in the development and presentation of strategies to promote the delivery of information products and services. Contribute to the creation of innovative solutions and efficient processes associated with spatial data management and supply. Work independently and/or within a team environment by interacting with staff on a project basis to ensure that objectives are completed in a timely, appropriate, and effective manner. Prepare written and verbal reports for projects as required
- Undertake behaviours and practices consistent with a high-performing team
- Other duties as directed and required
Role requirements
- A Degree qualification in the field of Spatial Sciences, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing/Earth Observation, Information Technology, Data Science, or an agreed equivalent as determined by the Director General
- While not mandatory, it is highly desirable for the applicant to have an interest in both the domestic and international commercial imagery industries (aviation and aerospace)
- While not mandatory, it is highly desirable for the applicant to have an interest in developing skills to manage and visualise large and varied datasets: o Programming languages (e.g. Python, JavaScript, Structured Query Language (SQL))o Configuration of cloud compute and storage infrastructure resources (AWS, Microsoft Azure)o Spatial data (raster, vector) and metadata managemento Technical writing or technical communication
