Brisbane, Australia Queensland Health Full time

For this position it is a genuine occupational requirement that it be filled by person with lived experience of child and or adolescent mental health problems and recovery as permitted by the Anti-Discrimination Act (sections 25,104 and 105).
About Us
Children's Health Queensland is a specialist statewide hospital and health service dedicated to caring for children and young people from across Queensland and northern New South Wales.
We are committed to collaborating with all of our healthcare partners, most importantly families, to ensure we consistently deliver safe, high-quality patient and family-centred care.
A recognised leader in paediatric healthcare, education and research, Children's Health Queensland delivers a full range of clinical services, tertiary level care and health promotion programs.

**We provide an integrated network of services through**:

- The Queensland Children's Hospital
- The Child and Youth Community Health Service
- The Child and Youth Mental Health Service
- Statewide services and programs, including specialist outreach and telehealth services
- Partnerships with other hospital and health services and non-government organisations

Children's Health Queensland provides services from key locations in the Brisbane metropolitan area and works with the 15 other hospital and health services as well as NGOs and charity partners in Queensland to deliver an integrated network of healthcare services and support across the state.

**Your Opportunity**:
The Peer Worker (Youth) role is based on the idea that people who have had a lived experience of mental illness and have experienced recovery, with specialised training, can support others experiencing mental health difficulties and can intentionally engender hope by role-modelling recovery in a way that others without a lived experience cannot.

**Peer Worker (Youth) will**:

- Be a positive role model for hope, encourage self-awareness and self-determination by sharing their own lived experience and life stories.
- Assist young people, carers, families, service providers and Non-Government Organisations (NGO's) to develop a better understanding of the recovery framework while utilising their lived experience of mental health issues and work alongside the clinical team to achieve the best possible outcomes for young people and their families.

What CHQ HHS can offer
Apart from contributing to the development of Australia's best paediatric health service, you will also benefit from a competitive remuneration package and a working environment which embraces professional development, builds capabilities and supports staff to maximise their health and wellbeing.
