An automotive apprenticeship combines on-the-job training with a skilled professional, alongside structured learning with a registered provider.

**What do Transmission Automotive apprentices do?**

This role is suitable for an individual who enjoys practical, technical, and hands-on activities. If you like a challenge and have great attention to detail, good numeracy, and literacy skills, and like working with your hands, this is the career for you As part of your apprenticeship, you will learn how to:

- Repairs manual and automatic transmissions in automobiles, buses, trucks, and other automotive vehicles: Raises automotive vehicles, using jacks or hoists, and removes transmission, using mechanic's hand-tools
- Disassembles transmission unit and replaces broken or worn parts, such as bands, gears, seals, and valves.
- Adjusts pumps, bands, and gears as required, using wrenches.
- Installs repaired transmission and fills it with specified fluid.
- Adjusts operating linkage and tests operation on road.
- May adjust the carburetor.
- May verify the idle speed of a motor, using equipment, such as a tachometer, making required adjustments.
- May specialize in the repair of automatic transmissions and be designated, Automatic-Transmission Mechanic.

- Quality training and mentoring in all aspects of the light vehicle mechanics trade
