Design Manager

About your role
Mott MacDonald has an enviable global Defence pedigree, working on iconic projects across the UK, Europe, the Americas and Australia.
We are rapidly expanding our Australian Industry Capability, with a long-term commitment to support the ADF through innovation and delivery excellence for the capability and sustainment of the Defence Estate.
You will join a diverse team of experienced consultants who are passionate about what they do, each with a proven track record in guiding our clients, and leading delivery of our country’s most critical projects.
You will draw on our global experience and the unrivalled combination of skills, resources and knowledge of our wider Australian team in delivering technical design management and design consultancy services to the Defence sector.
Winning work will be one focus of your role where you will leverage your experience and knowledge in the development and management of winning bids. You will be supported in this by a collaborative team of professionals that will share your passion for excellence and vision for innovative solutions.
You will work closely with our global Digital Solutions cohort to bring a unique and powerful combination of proven cutting-edge, innovative products to create intuitive end-user experiences that harness the power of data intelligence to supercharge delivery of outcomes. In this role you will have the ability to influence outcomes by:

- Being accountable for the successful delivery of projects under your oversight including commercial and financial success, ensuring contract rems and risk mitigations are put into practice and ensuring projects are sufficiently resourced to deliver
- Being accountable for client satisfaction by supporting the project team to ensure suitable skilled resources are made available and taking action to develop a relationship of trust
- Implementing strategies that address program, delivery and design risks and ensure that the most appropriate Standards and requirements are developed and implemented
- Undertaking day to day coordination of projects and development and execution of project plans and programming
- Defining project scope and developing project budgets and managing cost plans
- Delivering fit for purpose technical solutions as agreed with the client stakeholders
- Monitor project performance to ensure technical deliverables are in line with Defence milestone expectations
- Ensure deliverables are in line with the brief and relevant project/stakeholder/statutory requirements
- Identifying project risks and mitigation strategies along with value for money opportunities
- Provide strategic advice and leadership to inform ongoing value management to drive cost efficiencies
- What you will bring to the team:
- You will either hold or have the ability to obtain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) Baseline Security Clearance or above.
- With tertiary qualifications relevant to Engineering, you will have proven skills in major project delivery and design.
You will possess knowledge of both Defence and Australian design standards with an understanding of multi-disciplinary requirements of Defence projects in feasibility, preliminary and detailed design.
- You will have excellent communications skills, being able to bring a mature and relevant network of connections in the market. Connections to Defence industries will be viewed as an advantage. You will have experience in external and internal stakeholder management, to help you influence the outcome of key decisions.
