Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission. Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the 'Courts Group'.

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is the first level of the Victorian court system and is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria. It has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 locations, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
**About the role**
The Magistrates' Court of Victoria is seeking a dynamic and experienced Registrar to lead and manage operations within a busy court complex. This pivotal role is responsible for overseeing all legal, quasi-judicial, and administrative functions across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring services are delivered in accordance with relevant legislation, rules, and regulations.
As a senior leader, the Registrar will manage staff performance, drive operational excellence, and foster strong stakeholder relationships with the judiciary, legal professionals, government departments, and community organisations. The role also involves strategic planning, policy development, and facilities management.
Key Responsibilities
- ; Lead and manage court operations, ensuring effective delivery of registry services and quasi-judicial functions.
- ; Provide high-level authoritative advice to the Chief Magistrate, CEO, judiciary, staff, and court users.
- ; Drive staff development, performance, and engagement in a complex judicial environment.
- ; Collaborate with Principal Registrars across jurisdictions and contribute to regional program management.
- ; Oversee the security and maintenance of court buildings and facilities.
- ; Develop and implement policies that enhance court operations and align with strategic objectives.
This role offers a great opportunity to build leadership, facilities management, and stakeholder engagement skills. You'll receive strong support and development, while overseeing daily operations at Geelong Court and working closely with colleagues in Warrnambool and Geelong.
**About you**
- ; Demonstrated understanding of legislation, practices, and procedures relevant to Victorian Courts and Tribunals.
- ; Strong leadership, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- ; Proven ability to manage teams and drive service excellence.
- ; Commitment to integrity, respect, and public value.
- ; Certificate IV in Government (Court Services) or equivalent (desirable).
- ; Travel to regional courts may be required.
