About the role:
The purpose of the Audio Producer will be to create a podcast that translates Broadsheet’s editorial voice, ethos and approach into audio: telling interesting stories, simply, and tapping into the cultural zeitgeist.

The audio producer will work in tandem with the editorial director to execute the
creative vision - both for the overall project and for each episode - to the highest
possible standard, in line with the Broadsheet ethos, while delivering the project on time
and within budget.

Strong journalistic and audio storytelling skills are integral to the role, as is a firm
understanding of audio production standards and logistics; industry best practice; an eye
for data analysis and national audience growth; and a positive, proactive approach.

This role will be 0.6FTE, working 3 days a week.

Key Responsibilities:

- Pre-production - scheduling, budgeting, series and episode development, securing and briefing talent, briefing post
- Production - some recording of in-field audio
- Post-production - editing rough cuts; scripting; managing internal stakeholder approvals; overseeing final VO record and sound mix; overseeing mastering and delivery; data analysis and audience growth

**Tasks**:
Pre-Production
The audio producer is responsible for:

- Managing and adhering to the production budget and schedule
- Series development, including fine tuning the creative vision, and developing
- assets such as the show logline and description
- Episode development, with an eye for stories that will engage a broad
- readership and ideally resonate with a national audience
- Securing and briefing talent, which may include conducting pre-interviews
- Booking and briefing audio post, such as sound studios and engineers
- Briefing and mentoring reporting team on audio storytelling
- Preparing release forms

Production
The audio producer is responsible for:

- Some recording of in-field audio interviews
- Some recording of other audio (as dictated by the story)
- Overseeing studio records

Post-Production
The audio producer is responsible for:

- Assembly editing and/or preparing paper edits, which may require some
- transcriptions
- Reviewing edits alongside the reporting team to ensure all narrative and utility
- requirements are met, which may include some scripting
- Addressing internal stakeholder feedback and managing the necessary approvals
- Briefing audio post and supplying assets prior to the final record and mix
- Briefing the host and preparing host and guest scripts as required
- Overseeing the final VO record and mix
- Overseeing mastering and delivery
- Job archive including filing, archiving rushes and masters, preparing job
- completion reports, budget reports,
- Analysing data and performance and sharing learnings with the internal team,
- with an eye national audience growth

Your Experience
- A passion for quality audio storytelling and journalism, and, as a bonus, a
- passion for culture (restaurant, travel, fashion and art)
- Proven experience producing emotive and entertaining narrative audio content
- A solid understanding of the Broadsheet tone and storytelling style
- Outstanding attention to detail, time management, communication, and
- organisational skills
- Outstanding in-field recording skills
- Excellent writing, copy-editing and audio-editing skills
- A solid understanding of audio production equipment, formats and outputs
