Our dedicated Leaf Cutting department at Australia Zoo is primarily responsible for the collection of leaf and browse for koalas and other species.
The Food Operations Team Leader is employed to ensure that the Food Operations team are operating in a safe and ethical manner. They are required to be multi-skilled and possess great leadership abilities.
To be successful in this position, you will have a demonstrated ability to work in a high-performance environment, with a capacity to deliver all requirements of the role, great work ethic and the ability to work to a high standard within a team.
**Primary Duties**:
- Leaf collection as required
- Mowing and Whipper-snipper use
- Operation and general maintenance of machinery associated with browse collection
- Maintain records of observations and reports on stock levels and maintenance logs.
- Conduct environment and enclosure safety checks where appropriate.
- Remain competent in all aspects of Zoo emergency responses
- Maintain correct cleaning procedures for all enclosures/areas assigned
- Clean, feed and maintain insects and associated rooms as necessary
- Maintain Keeper office / fruit room and other buildings and surrounding grounds (including routine gutter cleans)
- Maintain relevant vehicles and trailers and ensure safe operation of all Food Operations fleet vehicles
- Report any concerns regarding fleet vehicles appropriately to the Surveillance and Fleet Manager
- Assist the Chief Animal Care Officer with team recruitment in conjunction with the Human Resources Department
- Assist the Chief Animal Care Officer with team management and staff performance reviews in conjunction with the Human Resources Department
- Provide a high standard of customer service
- Ensure all members of the Food Operations team are provided with a suitable level of training to complete the duties expected in a safe manner
- Develop training plans in conjunction with the Chief Animal Care Officer to ensure staff are meeting appropriate KPI’s
**Essential Criteria -**
- Available to work weekends, public holidays, and school holiday periods
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- Satisfactory & suitable level of fitness & wellbeing to safely perform the duties
- Ability to work well as a team and unsupervised
- Previous grounds/maintenance experience
- Experience operating machinery, such as 4WD’s and other vehicles
- Hold current Manual Driver’s Licence
- Available to work weekends, public holidays, and school holiday periods
- Proof of Coronavirus vaccination (unless otherwise exempt)
- Chainsaw licence
- Proven ability to lead a team

- Manual drivers licence
